Jamie Milligan said he was delighted with the reaction from his side after today's 3-0 win over FC United of Manchester at the Sir Tom Finney Stadium.

Brig suffered defeat to Scarborough last time out but put on an improved performance to defeat the visitors, managed by former Brig boss Neil Reynolds.

Milligan said post-match: “All we asked for the lads to do is respond after a big defeat we had against Scarborough last week.

“I knew and I didn’t question them because I knew they would, they’re a good set of lads and they work hard every single training session we have. Every game bar last week they’ve been brilliant for me, so all I wanted was a reaction.”

Milligan was also pleased with how his side performed in front of a large crowd at the ground.

He explained: “One thing I did say to them was to be composed on the ball all day, don’t panic, make sure you’re relaxed, make sure we play our football and just play it like it’s a normal match.

“I know it’s a big crowd, they’re a great club and they’ve got a great following, but we’ve just got to play it like a normal game and the boys did brilliantly today.

“I just know with that set of lads in there, I know when they’re on it there’s not a lot better than them.”

On the first goal, which was set up by George Thomason and finished by Ali Waddecar, Milligan said: “George has got that in his locker, it’s a great ball through.

“It’s so good to have Ali back on the pitch because I know he’s been frustrated being out injured and he worked his socks off for us. He gave us an hour, and it was a great finish (for the goal).”

The Brig boss also reserved praise for Sheldon Green and debutant Nathan Shaw, who netted the second and third goals of the afternoon.

“That’s what Sheldon gives you, he works hard for you and he gives you everything,” he said.

“He probably should’ve scored (in the first half) but it took a massive bobble to be fair to him. I said to him at half time to forget about it, just keep going and you’ll get your goal, and he did.

“I know what Nathan’s like, I signed him when he was 15, 16 years old. He’s got so much quality on the ball and he just needs to play games now, and that’s what I brought him here to do.”
